“People’s Choice Awards” (9 p.m., CBS): Popularity counts on “The 35th annual People’s Choice Awards” as the fans fete their favorites in television, movies and music. Queen Latifah, a nominee for “favorite leading lady,” hosts the gala.

“Damages” (10 p.m., FX): As the second season begins, Patty (Glenn Close) gets drawn into another mystery of murder and backstabbing. It’s all in a day’s work.
