Unbeaten Harding tops Massillon
MASSILLON — The Warren Harding High boys basketball team rolled to a 30-15 halftime lead in extending its unbeaten streak to six with a 66-47 win over Massillon on Saturday.
Senior guard Sheldon Brogdon, a YSU recruit, scored 16 points and Fred Williams also had 16 for the Raiders, while Angel Gonzalez and Desmar Jackson added 12 and 10, respectively.
Akr. Firestone 58, East 54
YOUNGSTOWN — Kenny Carter scored 28 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Panthers (2-5), who made 21 of 76 shots.
Justin Brown blocked four shots.
Darrius Carter led Firestone (3-4) with 18 points.
Newton Falls 83, Lordstown 36
NEWTON FALLS — Marcus Fowler, a 6-foot-11 senior, scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Tigers remain undefeated.
Brian Sole added 14 points for Newton Falls (9-0), which had nine 3-point goals. Three were by Tyler Kernes.
Steve Cribley and Brian Whitfield had seven points each for Lordstown (7-4).
Girard 38, Badger 37
GIRARD — Pat Pagano made a basket with 35 seconds remaining as the young Indians (1-7) snapped a seven-game losing streak.
“We are excited about getting this win are hard work is starting to pay off,” Girard coach Mike DelBene said. “We don’t have any varsity experience back from last year so we went two-a-day practices last week and the kids are happy because it was a total team effort tonight.”
Augustine paced the Indians with 14 points and six rebounds. Mat Pagano chipped in with 12 points and Dante DelBene had three assists.
Marcus Heath led the Braves (2-6) with 12 points and five rebounds. Jeff Ashcroft had four assists.
Crestview 64, Beaver Local 41
NEW WATERFORD — The Rebels, ahead 29-19 at intermission, put the game out of reach with a 20-9 surge in the third quarter.
Jakob Leon paced the Crestview’s balanced scoring attack with 19 points. Carter Hill added 14 and Brandon Gates finished with 12.
Brandy Gunger led the Beavers (0-8) with 18 points.
Field 63, Southeast 47
RAVENNA — Southeast scored 22 points in the final quarter, but the Pirates were too far behind to catch Field.
Joey DeJacimo scored 11 points, including three 3-point goals to lead Southeast.
Kennedy Catholic 64, Greenville 41
HERMITAGE, Pa. — Kyle Randall scored 25 points for Kennedy Catholic. Randall also had five assists and four steals.
The Eagles (8-1) built a commanding 52-34 lead by the end of the third quarter and the Trojans couldn’t make up the difference.
The Golden Eagles’ Aundra Jones chipped in with 17 points and he grabbed 10 rebounds. Tyler Blachak led the Trojans with 14 points.
