Earned Eagle award

Michael W. Graham, son of James and Claudia Graham of Cortland, received his Eagle Scout award during a recent ceremony at Braceville United Methodist Church.

Michael started Scouting as a Tiger Cub in 1996 with Pack 252 in Cortland. As a Cub Scout, Michael earned the Arrow of Light Award in 2000, Cub Scouting’s highest award.

He joined Boy Scout Troop 8 in Leavittsburg in 2000 and has served in these leadership positions: assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, scribe, senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and troop guide.

His Eagle Scout service project consisted of drafting a design, gathering materials and constructing a decorative and functional post and chain fence for the Cancer Care Center at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.

A senior at Lakeview High School, Cortland, Michael has earned 28 merit badges, has more than 125 nights of camping and has earned the Polar Bear Award. Michael has attended five years of summer camp, earning the Pathfinder and Trapper awards.

Michael attended North Star Junior Leader Training at Camp Chickagami in 2004 and was a troop guide on the North Star staff in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In 2003, he became a member of Order of the Arrow and is a Brotherhood member of the Wapashuwi Lodge 56.

DOCTORS

Awarded audiology degree

Melissa Williamson Cherne has been awarded her degree of doctor of audiology by Salus University’s George S. Osborne College of Audiology in Elkins Park, Pa.

Cherne is the daughter of Allan and Nancy Williamson of Boardman. She earned both a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology and audiology and a master’s degree in audiology from the University of Akron.

She is a Youngstown city schools educational audiologist. She and her husband, Christopher, live in Boardman with their three children.
