New Castle man killed in auto crash in Union Township


UNION, Pa. — A New Castle, Pa., man died after the car he was a passenger in lost control and struck a tree in Union Township.

Delmonte L. Searcy, 18, of New Castle, was pronounced dead by the Lawrence County coroner after he was discovered by authorities in a car driven by Abron C. Phillips, 19, of Farrell, Pa.

According to a police report, Phillips was traveling west on Rebecca Street on Friday when he lost control of the vehicle and hit its passenger side into a tree.

Phillips was flown from the scene to the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of his injuries.

Searcy was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Authorities are investigating the accident, and UPMC Presbyterian Hospital is not releasing information on Searcy’s condition.
