“Confessions of a Teen Idol” (8 p.m., VH1): Ah, the celebrity, the money, the parties; if only they weren’t decades past for idols of the 1980s and ’90s. But VH1 wants to give once-beloved hunks of TV and film another shot at fame, hence “Confessions of a Teen Idol.” The eight-part series features Christopher Atkins (“The Blue Lagoon”), David Chokachi (“Baywatch”), Billy Hufsey (“Fame”), Jeremy Jackson (“Baywatch”), Eric Nies (“The Real World,” “The Grind”), Jamie Walters (“Beverly Hills 90210”), and Adrian Zmed (“TJ Hooker,” “Grease 2”). The men, who tasted varying degrees and duration of success, become housemates to ponder their personal and professional missteps and try to regain the public’s affection.
“24” (8 p.m., Fox): The new season of “24” revs up next Sunday, but anxious fans can get their Jack Bauer on with a re-airing of the turbo-charged movie, “24: Redemption.” It has our favorite terrorist-buster going ballistic in Africa.
“Ultimate Recipe Showdown” (9 p.m., Food Network): Contestants put their homemade recipes on the line for glory and fame.
“Superstars of Dance” (9 p.m., NBC): Just what you wanted — more TV dancing. “Superstars of Dance” brings an international flair to the genre with teams from eight countries going toe-to-toe on the ballroom floor. Michael Flatley and Susie Castillo host.
“Tess of the D’Urbervilles” (9 p.m., PBS): Even if you hated slogging through Thomas Hardy’s 1891 novel, “Tess of the D’Urbervilles,” in high school, you might enjoy the stunning new adaptation from “Masterpiece Classic.” Gemma Arterton shines as the spirited heroine whose shot at love is complicated by a scandalous past.
“Dead Man Talking” (10 p.m., MSNBC): MSNBC’s provocatively titled “Dead Man Talking” follows a chief medical officer in Michigan as he tries to crack mysteries by finding the cause of death. The first episode, “Trail of Blood,” focuses on the 1986 disappearance of a 13-year-old girl and how the cold case heated up with the arrest and trial of a convicted sex offender. Just before sentencing in the teenager’s case, the man is persuaded to lead authorities to her remains. Dr. Daniel Spitz must determine if the bones are the girl’s and how she died. Other episodes in the three-part series airing on consecutive Sundays include “Final Exit,” about a staircase death that may or may not have been foul play, and “Eternal Neighbors,” a look at one hectic weekend at the Macomb County medical examiner’s office.
