WARREN — Anyone interested in a career in health care is invited to attend a free health-care career workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 13 at the YWCA, 375 N. Park Ave.
The workshop, presented by the Northeast Ohio HealthForce, will offer information on nursing, health information technology, laboratory and radiology technology, rehabilitative therapy, pharmacy technology and many other career paths. Participants will be able to talk to health-care employers, educators and career pathway representatives during an hourlong breakout session. Information on financial aid also will be available. Northeast Ohio HealthForce is a cooperative of area health-care providers, educators and workforce development experts working to address work shortages in the health-care industry.
Trustees move up meeting
POLAND — Township trustees rescheduled their regular meeting to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the township government center, Dobbins Road. The meeting, which had been scheduled for Jan. 13, also will be the 2009 reorganizational meeting.
Man hurt in attack
AUSTINTOWN — An attack at a party on New Year’s Day left one man injured.
The victim said he was at a party at Central Park West Apartments on New Hampshire Court when an altercation broke out early Thursday. He told police three men pulled guns on him, and he was hit in the face by one of the guns, chipping his tooth. The victim said he was then jumped and beaten by the men.
The victim’s friend said he witnessed the attack but was unable to help because one of the attackers was pointing a gun at his face. The victim said he sought medical attention to injuries including multiple rib fractures, lacerations to the head and face and injury to his left leg and hip. He told police he could only identify one of the men involved in the attack by name.
Howland tree recycling
HOWLAND — Howland Township will be picking up and recycling Christmas trees beginning Monday and continuing through Jan. 16. Remove all ornaments and trimmings before placing trees curbside. Township residents also may drop off Christmas trees beginning Monday through Jan. 16, between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Public Works Department, 3600 N. River Road. Family program
HOWLAND — The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library Branch Services Department and The Butler Institute of American Art will offer a blend of art and books during an interactive family program at 2 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Butler Trumbull Branch.
The Reading and Other Forms of Art program encourages adults and children to work together to connect books and art in a museum setting. The program is designed for children age 5 to 12 with an accompanying adult.
The program will be held at the Butler’s Trumbull County Branch, 9350 East Market St. Children’s librarians will present stories, and art educators from The Butler will present a companion craft.
