The Daniel Fast is a time of prayer and focusing on our relationship with God. Here are some suggestions from Patrick McBane of Marketplace Solutions. Vegetables: All types of fresh, dried, canned, frozen or juiced ... even a veggie burger.
Fruits: All types of fresh, canned, frozen, juiced, or dried.
Nuts and seeds: All types including cashews, sesame, sunflower seeds, peanuts and peanut butter.
Oils: Grape seed, sesame, peanut, olive or canola seed.
Whole grains: All types, including brown rice, millet, whole wheat, quinoa, whole wheat pasta, rice cakes, popcorn, oats, whole wheat tortillas, barley and grits.
Legumes: All types of beans — dried, fresh, canned, lentils, etc.
Beverages: Water is best along with fruit and vegetable juices.
Other foods: Tofu, soy products, herbs, spices, seasoning, vinegar and salt.
Other suggestions: During the fast, it is also suggested that the participant give up alcohol, television and distractions that relate to personal pleasure.
What to avoid: Dairy, meat and animal products, sweets, processed and refined foods, beverages with caffeine and carbonation, deep fried foods and solid fat and its products.
