YOUNGSTOWN — Ursuline High School will have an open house from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 1 featuring booths and displays from all academic departments and school organizations.

There will be performances by the band, cheerleaders and speech team. Tours of the school will be offered and a special tuition raffle will take place for eighth-graders who are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Financial aid forms will be available.

Refreshments will be provided by the Home and School Association.

U. of Akron registrations

AKRON — The University of Akron’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division will be accepting course registrations Thursday through May 29.

More than 300 courses are offered in a variety of programs ranging from computers to business and languages. Courses vary in length from three-hour workshops to 35-hour computer certification classes and many courses are available online.

Sign up for kindergarten

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — Parents or guardians with children who will be 5 years old before Sept. 1, 2009, and want to register them for kindergarten in the 2009-10 school year should call the elementary school office at (724) 656-8866, ext. 3000, now.

A screening clinic will be at New Wilmington Elementary School April 22 and 23.

A packet containing registration forms and an appointment time will be mailed around the last week of March to parents who contact the elementary school office.

SRU job/internship fair

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The Office of Career Services at Slippery Rock University will have a Summer Job and Internship Fair from noon to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 24 in the Multi-purpose Room of the University Union.

The program is open to students in all majors.

Enrichment for teachers

NEW YORK — The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History will sponsor 40 one-week teacher enrichment seminars across the United States and England for educators at every level.

Participants in the competitive application seminars will receive a $400 stipend, books and room and board. Educators at all levels and National Park Service interpreters are eligible to apply.

The institute will offer 1,200 K-12 educators and National Park Service interpreters the chance to study American history with leading scholars of the field. These weeklong seminars provide intellectual stimulation and practical resources and strategies to take back to the classroom. Participants work with noted professors to deepen their knowledge of topics from the Colonial Era through the twentieth century.
