Youngstown police investigating traffic accident, shooting, on South Side

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown police continue their investigation into a traffic accident in which they discovered a man had been shot.

A Youngstown police officer was called to the scene of a traffic accident on the city’s South Side today, where a man was discovered shot and lying beside a sport-utility vehicle that crashed into a front porch.

Shortly after 7 a.m. the officer was dispatched to Ivanhoe Avenue, where 29-year-old Donell Roe of Avondale Avenue was found nonresponsive on the ground next to the passenger door of a Ford Explorer. Roe appeared to be shot in his left side, but was alive and transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Officers also reported that footprints were found leaving the vehicle’s driver-side door, and a K-9 unit was called out to investigate.

Roe’s condition was not released by the hospital.
