Macy’s reveals problems with some debit cards

CINCINNATI — Macy’s Inc. says some pre-Christmas shoppers might have been hit with a double-debit.

The Cincinnati-based retailer says a system glitch from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Dec. 20 caused multiple debits to some customers’ checking cards in stores in its central and eastern divisions.

The company believes the numbers of those affected were small, but is urging customers to check their bank statements.

Spokesman Ed Smith said Wednesday that Macy’s has been in communication with banks to make sure multiple debits are cleared up and customers aren’t penalized with overdraft fees.

Customers who still have issues with their bank accounts can get help by faxing their statement to Macy’s, at (513) 573-2433, with their account number blacked out, to the attention of “Third Party Credit.”
