Mercer County girl, shot by teen relative, in critical condition

FREDONIA, Pa. (AP) — State police say they’ll meet with a district attorney to determine whether charges should be filed in the shooting of a 10-year-old Mercer County girl by a 15-year-old relative.

Police aren’t identifying the victim or the boy who shot her in the head Wednesday evening in Delaware Township.

The girl was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital, Pittsburgh, where she remains in critical condition.

Police say the shooting occurred at a residence about 6:30 p.m. while the victim and the teenage boy were alone in the home. Police believe the shooting was accidental, but say charges could still be filed after Friday’s meeting.

Police say a handgun was used, but have not said how the 15-year-old came to possess it.
