A bright light on Christmas

A bright light on Christmas

EDITOR:

What a present we had on Christmas, something for Youngstown to stand up and be proud about. When in the national spotlight on NBC-TV we showed what Youngstown can do.

“Hot Ice, Cool Sounds” and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra were outstanding.

I have friends who left this area 15 years ago. After seeing the “Hot Ice, Cool Sounds,” broadcast on Christmas Day, they called me from Las Vegas, where they live. They could not believe the shots of the Chevy Centre, downtown and YSU. They said they want to come back and visit the area.

Don’t complain about this area. Keep the arts and entertainment going and keep a positive light shining here.

New Year’s resolutions

EDITOR:

1) To be more patient when someone is texting or talking on their cell phone while running the red lights on my school bus

2) Take off my car radio a certain radio talk show because all they do is blast the autoworkers and our unions who shop at most of their advertisers

3) Be more patient when I am at the grocery store’s meat counter waiting for my number when everybody else is lined up right up front, like the closer they stand the quicker they will be waited on.

4) To be more understanding when I am driving over our local washboard streets because our county engineer has his priorities in another place (we need to see a break down of where all our road tax money goes).

5) To try to understand why our government was quick to bail out Wall Street, but slow to help out the auto industry who had to beg for a “loan”. Maybe their pensions and investments had to do something with Wall Street.

6) To try to understand why the workers who are telemarketers have to go to work dressed up (and wear ties) when we can’t see them.

7) To try to understand why our government will help foreign countries when our own people have no health care and are living in cardboard boxes.

8) Try to figure out what happened to the Ohio lottery we voted for back in the 1970s, when we were told we’d never have to worry about our schools financial situation again. Now they all are going broke.

Recognizing a job well done

EDITOR:

I would like to tell Detective Sgt. John Kelty and all the other Youngstown detectives who worked on the Crawford case what a great job they did.

Also the Youngstown Fire Department did a wonderful job. I know this case has touched each and every one of them, yet they stayed professional and did their jobs.
