Spadafora set to fight March 31 in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — Former International Boxing Federation lightweight champ Paul Spadafora’s on-again, off-again comeback is on again.

The 33-year-old boxer from the Pittsburgh suburb of McKees Rocks says he will fight an undetermined opponent at the Pittsburgh Hilton on March 31.

Spadafora has been training in Erie, where he last fought in April, a unanimous eight-round decision over Shad Howard. Spadafora has tried to fight twice since then, but those bouts were delayed by knee surgery and a lip cut by a sparring partner.

Spadafora is 41-0-1 but his career has been derailed by legal problems. He was paroled in April 2006 after 13 months’ incarceration for shooting his ex-girlfriend, Nadine Russo in October 2003. Russo is the mother of Spadafora’s son.
