Film’s director to answer questions after free screening

NILES — In 2004 alone, Americans spent $12.4 billion on cosmetic surgery. But why are Americans so discontented with how they look? In the film “America the Beautiful,” director Darryl Roberts reveals the secrets, harsh realities and risks in the quest for physical perfection.

The YWCA of Warren is hosting a free screening of the film, followed by a question-and-answer session with Roberts at 7 p.m. March 7 at USA Cinemas in Niles. The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. For more information or to make a reservation, call the YWCA of Warren at (330) 373-1010. Reservation deadline is Thursday.

At the heart of “America the Beautiful” is the story of Gerren Taylor, a teenager who goes from innocent 12-year-old girl to supermodel. Her tumultuous quest acts as a mirror to the American psyche, and it becomes apparent how the same beauty that could jump-start her career could ultimately destroy her young life.

The film includes interviews with Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson, Aisha Tyler, Anthony Kedis, Tisha Campbell, Julianne Moore, Michael Beach, Mena Suvari and Martin Short.
