APPROPRIATION BILLS Local programs
The U.S. House approved a $410 billion spending measure. It still needs approval by the Senate and the signature of the president. Here are the nearly $8 million in local projects that would be funded under the House bill, if it becomes law.
$700,000 for improvements to a Campbell portion of the Mahoning River Corridor of Opportunity.
$675,000 for the Little Squaw Creek interceptor sewer project along state Route 193 in Vienna.
$550,000 for infrastructure improvements to the Wick District-Smoky Hollow district in Youngstown.
$1,903,000 for Youngstown State University to create a Center for Efficiency in Sustainable Energy Systems.
$216,000 for the Warren school district to develop a mobile health clinic program.
$285,000 for Humility of Mary Health Partners to establish a teen parent program in Mahoning County with the goal of reducing repeat teen pregnancies, ensuring infants receive immunizations and increasing the parenting skills of young mothers.
$124,000 for the Children’s Rehabilitation Center in Howland for a program for families of special needs children.
$95,000 to provide operating money for the Sojourner House, an emergency protective shelter in Mahoning County.
$190,000 for the PowerUp! Partnership, a project designed for students and teachers in Youngstown and Ashtabula to improve learning.
$171,000 for Forum Health’s Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren to purchase a MRI scanner.
$95,000 for the Youngstown Symphony Initiative, an effort between the symphony and the Youngstown school district to address the needs of at-risk elementary and middle school children through music.
$143,000 for MAGNET and Humility of Mary Health Partners for a service that identifies problems and suggests improvements in the operation of medical facilities.
$146,000 for the Youngstown YMCA for workforce development, employment and training programs for disadvantaged people.
$150,000 to renovate the interior of the historic Kinsman House.
$246,643 for the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber’s Salute to Success program that addresses problems the region has with developing business startups.
$295,000 for the chamber’s From Steel to Scholars program that encourages students to achieve an effective or excellent rating in proficiency testing from kindergarten through grade 12.
$530,000 for Youngstown to implement a “shotspotter” program that allows for gunshot detection and video surveillance in areas with high crime rates.
$120,000 for Project 180 in Warren to reduce the recidivism rate of imprisoned women upon their release.
$300,000 for the Ohio Police Athletic League youth sports program in Youngstown.
$300,000 for Mahoning County to purchase technology to interface court computer systems with the county jail.
$332,500 to construct 3.9 miles of bike trail along an abandoned railroad right-of-way in Warren.
$142,500 for OCCHA to convert a warehouse building in Youngstown into a senior and youth center.
$50,000 for the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department to make equipment purchases.
$50,000 for the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Department to make equipment purchases.
$50,000 for the Resource Center of Columbiana County for an after-school program.
