Applications available for YPAL ball leagues

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Police Athletic League, in conjunction with the Juvenile Justice Center Sports Program, is accepting applications for its second T-ball, baseball and softball leagues for kids ages 5-to-17.

The activities are free. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at the following locations:

• Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Youngstown Police Department, Chief’s Office, 2nd Floor, 116 W. Boardman St., or YPD Community Training Center, 1639 Mahoning Ave.

• Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. — Boys and Girls Club, 2105 Oakhill Ave.

The baseball season begins the week of April 27, with games held on Wednesdays starting at 5 p.m. and on Saturdays starting at 11 a.m. at the West End Fields, located at the dead end of North Hazelwood Avenue across from Stambaugh Academy in Youngstown.

There will be opportunities for registered players to attend free instructional baseball and softball clinics. Call Edward Colon, the YPAL executive director, or Dave Crawford, YPAL program coordinator, at (330) 270-8497 for more information.

The program depends on donations and volunteers. Anyone interested in sponsoring a team, making a donation, or volunteering as a coach or in any other capacity is asked to call the YPAL office at (330) 270-8497.
