2 Youngstown men indicted in murder

YOUNGSTOWN — Two suspects have been indicted on charges of murder and improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation in the Saturday evening shooting death of Melkanoe L. Bowman.

Indicted Thursday by the Mahoning County grand jury on charges of discharging a gun into Bowman’s residence and killing Bowman were Keilan A. Clinkscale, 20, of Coronado Avenue, and Ryan J. McGee, 22, of Superior Street.

Bowman, 24, was shot in the head in the 900 block of Delaware Avenue on the city’s North Side in what police said was a feud. A bullet from the shooting also hit a 6-year-old boy across the street in his left foot as he slept.

Upon conviction, the murder charge carries 15 years to life in prison, and shooting at or into a habitation carries two to eight years in prison.

FBI seeks suspect in Campbell bank robbery

CAMPBELL — Police and the FBI continue their search for an unidentified man who stole an unspecified amount of money from the First National Bank’s Campbell Office, 355 Robinson Road, about 11:40 a.m. Thursday.

Bank personnel said no weapon was seen and no injuries were reported in the robbery, Campbell police said.

Witnesses described the robber as black, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, and wearing a Campbell hat and an Ohio State University shirt.

The robber, who was seen in a nearby Dollar Store before the robbery, fled on foot toward Youngstown, police said.

Warriors Inc. plans ‘Expressions of Life’

YOUNGSTOWN — Warriors Inc. is offering a series of classes called “Expressions of Life” from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays starting March 2 at the organization’s building, 2733 Market St.

The classes are designed for the development and self-improvement of youths age 12 and up.

Topics for the series include: dance, creative writing and poetry, photography, cartooning, and drama and theater.

Beatitude House grant

YOUNGSTOWN — Beatitude House was awarded a grant of $1,654 from Episcopal Community Services to support its career and education preparation program, The Potter’s Wheel.

The program helps women overcome a variety of obstacles. Comprehensive services are offered through the program including job placement, computer skills, parenting classes and GED preparation.

Last year, the program served 266 women and children. This year, the number is expected to increase because of the unemployment rate in the city and country.

The Potter’s Wheel is located at 145 N. Glenellen.

Black history program

YOUNGSTOWN — A black history program of two plays, “We Are” and “Rosa Parks,” will be presented at 4 p.m. March 8 at Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave.

The programs feature extraordinary black women of the past, present and future. There also will be poetry readings, mimes and music.

The program is free and open to all.
