Hair dryer can clear the mirror of fog

Dear Heloise: I love your column! I use so many of the helpful hints that I read. I wanted to give you one that I use on a daily basis. When getting out of the shower and the mirror is foggy, use your blow-dryer and zap it at the mirror for a few seconds. This will clear the fog and leave your mirror streak-free! Linda Cartier, Rapid City, S.D.

Dear Heloise: I’ve found that an easy way to clean a silk floral arrangement is to place it in a large trash bag, then add 1‚Ñ2 box of white table salt. Close the bag tightly and give it a good shake. The plants/flowers look almost new, and it doesn’t disturb the arrangement. David W. McCaskill, via e-mail

Dear Heloise: If you find yourself with too many rubber bands in the kitchen drawer, here is a great way to keep them organized: Loop them onto a large safety pin, and they are under control. They are easy to access when needed. A large baby-food jar works great for organizing twist-ties. Skeeter Gurzick, Omaha, Neb.

Dear Heloise: Love your hints! When my three boys were growing up, sometimes it was hard to tell which pants, socks and shirts belonged to which boy. So, with the oldest I put a “1” on all of his things. When it passed to the middle boy, I added a mark, so now it was “11,” and of course the third boy had “111” marks. It was easy to tell what belonged to each one at a glance. Keep your hints coming. Marie Thomen of Sterling, Va.

Dear Heloise: When I throw a bag away, I open it wide and put it inside my garbage bag. If I have to throw something wet away, it doesn’t mess the rest of the garbage bag in case it bursts. Alma Tomasello of Omaha, Neb.

Dear Heloise: By accident and desperation, I used my lint roller on my faux wood blinds in my bathroom. It worked like a charm at removing the dust. Jill, via e-mail

Dear Heloise: I recently got “hooked” on embroidery-type needlework. To keep all my sewing paraphernalia handy, I use a small, foam meat tray to hold scissors, needle threader, thimble, etc. It even holds my needle; I just stick it in the edge of the tray. A larger tray holds the embroidery floss, arranged by color number. I make slits in the edge of the tray to hold it in place. This keeps everything at my fingertips and is easily put away. Linda Perkins, via e-mail

Dear Heloise: I use a microfiber cloth to clean the lint filter on my clothes dryer, and wrap the cloth around a yardstick to clean the dryer’s air chute. Bob Patterson of North Canton, Ohio
