W. Pa. woman sues over son’s jail death

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A western Pennsylvania woman says in a federal lawsuit that her son died in a jail cell after being refused medical treatment.

The lawsuit was filed Tuesday by Lorraine Johnson of Uniontown. It says 48-year-old Terry Johnson turned himself in to the Fayette County Prison in 2007 after he was accused of violating a restraining order. The lawsuit says Johnson got a perforation in his intestine the next morning.

The lawsuit says a jail nurse ran an electrocardiogram test that showed abnormal results, but no treatment was provided.
