J-Milton leads area Div. III wrestlers

ROOTSTOWN — Jackson-Milton High had one sectional champion and seven district qualifiers to lead area teams at the Division III sectional wrestling tournament.

The Bluejays finished with 144 points and in third place at the tournament, hosted by Rootstown High.

Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy had six sectional champions and won the team title with 231 points. Woodridge finished second with 151.

Girard finished fourth with 119 points, one champion and five qualifiers, while South Range was sixth with 96 points and four qualifiers, including a sectional champion.

Brookfield finished ninth with 61.5 points and had two champions, while Warren JFK was 11th with 52.5 points and two qualifiers.

Winning individual championships were Vinnie Pizzuto of Jackson-Milton (103 pounds), Tyler Thompson (112) and Dann Miller (140) of Brookfield, Beau Bowden (171) of South Range and Alex Saunders (189) of Girard.

The district tournament is Friday and Saturday at Maple Heights High School.
