Ind. governor makes unplanned Ohio stop

COLUMBUS (AP) — A state-owned airplane carrying Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels made an unscheduled landing Sunday morning in Ohio after both of the aircraft’s windshields cracked early in his flight to the nation’s capital.

Daniels was flying to Washington for the National Governor’s Association meeting when the pilot diverted the flight to Ohio’s Port Columbus International Airport and landed the twin-engine turboprop shortly before 9 a.m.

The governor was taken by the Ohio State Highway Patrol to a Columbus television studio for an appearance via satellite on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” Daniels discussed the money the states expect to receive under the federal economic stimulus package and laughed when show host Bob Schieffer said Indiana now faces the added cost of fixing the plane.

“It’s not just a job, it’s an adventure, yes,” the governor replied.

Daniels later took a commercial flight to Washington.
