Here’s a look at statistics about hunger and food banks based on a nationwide survey of 180 food banks last December:

100 percent reported an increase in people served from a year earlier.

Demand for emergency food increased by 30 percent from previous year.

72 percent said they were unable to adequately meet demands of hungry people without having to reduce the amount of food they gave our or their operations.

55 percent said they had reduced, or were considering reducing, the amount of food given to clients.
