Park bridge wins award

YOUNGSTOWN — The Ohio Parks and Recreation Association has recognized the restoration of Mill Creek MetroParks’ suspension bridge with an award.

Linda Kostka, park spokeswoman, said the association presented park officials with a plaque bearing that designation. The project earned a superior in the park area development category.

The $523,000 project on the Valley Drive bridge was finished in 2007. Dot Construction Inc. of Canfield was the contractor.

The span was originally built in 1895.

The project involved rehabilitation, repair, cleaning and painting, and restoring structural integrity while maintaining the bridge’s historic flavor.
