Hope Cemetery

A new book has been prepared on the city’s oldest operating cemetery.

“Hope Cemetery — A Storied History” by local historian Dale E. Shaffer with help from David Stratton, director of The Salem Historical Society & Museum.

The 117-page book contains the stories of all sorts of people. It’s also Shaffer’s 27th book on Salem.

There is a detailed index for easy reference, a table of contents and a list of more than 130 photographs.

The cost is $30, with all proceeds going to support the Salem Historical Society.

People can buy copies by calling the museum at (330) 337-8514, by visiting the museum 208 S. Broadway from 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Wednesdays, and at the UPS store at 2789 Cunningham Road, Salem.
