“Spirit Awards (5 p.m., IFC): Just call them “the un-Oscars.” Today (one day before that OTHER awards show), Film Independent’s Spirit Awards will air, fittingly, on Independent Film Channel. Anne Hathaway’s family drama “Rachel Getting Married,” the border-smuggling tale “Frozen River” and the Deep South saga “Ballast” are in the lead with six nominations each. Eligible films must have cost less than $20 million to produce, with significant financing from independent sources outside the Hollywood studio system. Now in its 24th year, the Spirit Awards will air on IFC live and commercial-free at 5 p.m., with an edited rebroadcast Saturday at 10 p.m. on sister network AMC. Host is Steve Coogan (“Tropic Thunder,” “Hamlet 2”).

“Taking Chance” (8 p.m., HBO): In this moving tale, Kevin Bacon plays a military man who volunteers to escort a soldier’s body home.
