Gorant Candies closing its Market Street store

BOARDMAN — Gorant Candies is closing its store at 6999 Market St. at the end of the month.

Cleveland-based American Greetings, the parent company of Gorant, said in December that it was considering closing stores because of a deteriorating economy. For its fiscal quarter that ended Nov. 28, the greeting card maker reported a loss from continuing operations of $193 million.

Patrice Sadd, a company spokesman, said several stores are closing, but she didn’t have the locations of the others. Gorant also has a candy manufacturing plant and retail store farther south on Market Street.

Public library to conduct database demonstrations

YOUNGSTOWN — The information services department at the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will conduct a demonstration of databases available for business use at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the main library. The demonstration will cover D&B Million Dollar Database, DemographicsNow Library Edition and ReferenceUSA (business, health care, new businesses and residential modules).
