2 charged after chase

CAMPBELL — Two Youngstown brothers, ages 16 and 17, were arrested by Campbell police after a chase, and are in custody.

At about 7:45 a.m. Monday, police saw a car reported stolen at Pin Oak Drive and Gertrude Avenue containing two occupants. They tried to stop the vehicle, but the car turned onto Robinson Road and went across Struthers-Liberty Road. When the driver tried to turn onto 15th Street, he lost control and hit a brick wall. The pair then tried to run away.

Both suspects are charged with theft and receiving stolen property. The driver is charged with failure to comply with a police order and driving without a license, and the passenger with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia and obstructing official business.

Home and garden show

NILES — The Nature Stone Mahoning Valley Home and Garden Show is today, Saturday and Sunday at the Eastwood Expo Center.

Everyone entering the show will receive a ballot to vote for the best landscaping display of 2009. There will be 150 exhibitors at the event. Cooking demonstrations will be going on throughout the weekend.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5; seniors, $4; and children under 18 get in free. Parking is free.

East Side carjacking

YOUNGSTOWN — A 32-year-old Austintown man who drove to a house in the 400 block of Woodside Avenue on the East Side to pick up a friend got robbed and had his vehicle carjacked by two masked men, one of whom had a gun, police said.

The victim said the robbers approached Tuesday afternoon, and the one with the gun pounded on the driver’s side window trying to break it. The gunman then opened the door and took cash from the victim’s pockets. The second robber opened the passenger side door and started looking through the glove box.

The victim was then told to get out and lie on the driveway, and the robbers drove off in the 1998 Chevrolet Lumina.

Gun found at school

WARREN — Police took a handgun found in the Jefferson K-8 building at Tod Avenue and Fifth Street Southwest on Tuesday.

Police said no one was injured.

Refusing to be robbed

YOUNGSTOWN — A 20-year-old Campbell woman who was getting a DVD from a rental box in the Walgreen parking lot on McCartney Road refused to be robbed, reports show.

The woman told police two young men, one with a gun, came up behind her around 8 p.m. Wednesday and demanded her purse. She told them she would not give them anything. The gunman said he’d shoot her, and she said go ahead.

The men then fled, police said.
