YOUNGSTOWN — A traffic stop for a burned-out headlight resulted in two arrests and confiscation of a loaded gun and 117 rounds of ammo.

The traffic stop took place at 11 p.m. Tuesday on Hillman Street. The driver was released after being cited for the headlight. The passengers, Dorian A. Gorroden, 19, of Woodcrest Avenue and Jerry Bowman, 24, of Homewood Avenue were arrested.

Gorroden was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of crack cocaine and possession of a controlled substance, (painkiller pills). Police said the .22-caliber handgun was wrapped in what appeared to be a phone cord and the cord had to be cut away to remove the firearm from where it was tucked in his pants. Officers found a tin with 117 bullets, crack cocaine and $200 cash in his pants pockets.

Bowman, who police said gave a false name and couldn’t remember his birth date, was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance (painkiller pills) and obstructing official business. He also was served with a warrant issued by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for a parole violation.

Police said they found a bag of crack cocaine where Bowman had been sitting, and the pills were in his pants pocket.

State prison records show Bowman was paroled Jan. 14; his term expires May 18. He was sentenced to 11‚Ñ2 years after being convicted of burglary and possession of drugs.

The prison Web site lists him as a “violator at large” for violating the terms of his supervised release.

Gorroden and Bowman were arraigned Wednesday in municipal court. Gorroden is being held in jail in lieu of $20,000 bond. Bowman, whose bond is $3,000, is being held in jail pending court on the state parole violation.

Gorroden and Bowman are scheduled to be back in municipal court on Feb. 25.
