Slick roads blamed for 25 crashes in the city, plus more elsewhere
YOUNGSTOWN — Icy roads challenged morning commuters, with the first crash, a multiple pileup, called in at 6:51 a.m. today on the state Route 7/11 connector, police said. By 9 a.m., 25 crashes had been reported throughout the city. Drivers slid off ice-slicked pavements on Andrews Avenue, Coitsville Road, Market Street bridge, Oakwood Avenue, Bears Den Road, Hylda Avenue and Garland Avenue, to name a few. The Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield post handled a handful of wrecks early today on U.S. Route 224, state Route 11 and state Route 617. None of the crashes caused life-threatening injuries, police said.
