Kent State beats Ohio 64-51 in MAC


KENT (AP) — Jordan Mincy scored 27 points and went 5-of-5 on 3-pointers as Kent State pulled away in the second half to beat Ohio 64-51 in Mid-American Conference play Tuesday night.

The Bobcats (13-12, 6-6) held an eight-point lead four minutes into the second half, but Kent State went on a 16-0 run, holding Ohio scoreless for more than six minutes to grab a 42-34 advantage. The Golden Flashes (15-11, 8-4) never lost the lead after that, puling ahead by as many as 16 points.

Tyree Evans sparked the run with a 3-pointer and hit another just over a minute later.

Ohio had pulled to a 10-point lead midway into the first half, and held on to head into the second half ahead 29-25.

The Bobcats were led by Jerome Tillman’s 18 points and 11 rebounds. Steven Coleman scored 12 and Michael Allen added 10 for Ohio.

Kent State didn’t make any field goals after Mincy hit a 3-pointer with 3:45 left, but scored another 8 on free throws.
