Warren district opens 3rd of 5 new schools

staff report

WARREN — The third of five new city school buildings will open today on Willard Avenue Southeast.

Willard K-8 is the second of the district’s four new K-8 buildings to open, the first one being the Lincoln K-8 building on Atlantic Street Northeast, which opened at the start of the 2007-08 school year.

The new Harding High School opened for the start of the 2008-09 school year.

District employees worked over the weekend to complete the move from the two former buildings — the Devon K-2 site at 833 Central Parkway S.E. and the 3-5 and 6-8 grades sites at East, 1470 South Street S.E. (just south of Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital).

A dedication ceremony and open house for the new building, which will house about 1,100 pupils, will take place later.

Public walk-throughs of the two closing buildings will be scheduled in the spring.

The last two K-8 buildings, McGuffey on Tod Avenue Northwest, and Jefferson on Fifth Street Southwest, are expected to open in 2010.
