Poland man shot in legs on South Side
staff report
YOUNGSTOWN — Police are looking for men responsible for shooting a Poland man in both legs during an apparent drug deal gone bad Monday evening.
According to a police report, the 22-year-old North Lima Road man was driving down Chicago Street with a 23-year-old friend from Boardman and stopped at the Hillman Street intersection just after 6 p.m. When they stopped, two men in a car behind them walked up and tried to open the passenger and driver’s side doors.
The men told police one of the other two men fired a shot into the vehicle when they refused to open the door. The driver was shot in both legs with one bullet. The shooters returned to their car and sped away.
The injured man and his friend told police they had spoken to the shooter and his accomplice earlier in the day. Reports say the two men admitted going to the South Side area to buy drugs. They provided police with a phone number used to contact the shooter. The victim was being treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
