Hiram 78, Oberlin 58

OBERLIN — Sophomore guard Jess Cowan equaled her career-high by scoring 20 points as Hiram ended a three-game winless streak in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at Philips Gymnasium. Hiram (7-16, 5-9) shot 43.8 percent (21-of-48) from the floor for the game and held Oberlin (5-18, 3-11) to just 27.1 percent (19-of-70) shooting. Cowan also grabbed six boards and dished out a game-high seven assists. Junior forward Ashley Drum was second with 14 points and pulled down a game-tying high seven boards. Hiram will play its final two games of the regular season at home beginning with a NCAC matchup against Kenyon College on Wednesday at Price Gymnasium.

Grove City 62, Waynesburg 41

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Four Grove City College players scored in double figures in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference game at Rudy Marisa Field House. Sophomore forward Christine Slater and freshman guard Megan Gebrosky each fired in 16 points for the Wolverines (10-13, 6-7 PAC). Senior guard Raeann Szelong and junior forward Krista Beechy added 12 points each. Slater and Beechy both had six rebounds. Beechy also had four steals and three assists while Szelong handed out three assists. Elisha Jones led Waynesburg (8-15, 4-8) with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Waynesburg out-rebounded Grove City 40-34. Grove City forced 21 turnovers. Grove City will return to action Wednesday when the Wolverines host Saint Vincent at 6 p.m.

Grove City 76, Waynesburg 69

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Grove City won after an 8-0 run in the final 68 seconds in the PAC game. Grove City (11-10, 5-6 PAC) took the lead for good with 1:08 left when senior guard Joe McCoy drilled a three-point goal. Junior center Andy O’Keefe led five Grove City players in double figures with a game-high 18 points. Senior guard Ryan Gibson fired in 15 points while McCoy and freshman Brett Matson both tossed in 11 points. Senior forward John Scheller added 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting. Grove City shot 50 percent (28 for 56), including a 7-for-12 effort on three-point goals. Waynesburg shot 47 percent (27 of 58). Dan Happe led Waynesburg with 17 points. The Wolverines wrap up the home portion of the 2008-09 season Wednesday against Saint Vincent at 8 p.m.
