Ohio Super Lawyers magazine has designated Atty. Damian Billak of Youngstown a “2009 Rising Star,” one of only 11 criminal defense attorneys in the state to receive the honor.

To be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less.

Since entering private practice in 1995, Billak has dedicated his practice to the defense of people accused of crimes, regularly representing clients in state courts with crimes ranging from operating a vehicle while impaired and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and drug offenses to complex criminal matters in federal court.

His professional affiliations include the American Bar Association, Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Billak and his family live in Canfield.

LEADERSHIP

New secretary-treasurer

Trustee Don Barzak of Johnston Township in Trumbull County is secretary-treasurer for the Ohio Township Association Board of Directors.

Barzak was named to the position at the OTA’s annual winter conference earlier this month. He has served on the OTA board since 2002.

Gov. Ted Strickland was one of the keynote speakers at the conference, along with former U.S. Rep. John Kasich.
