“The Amazing Race 14” (8 p.m., CBS): Here’s our modest proposal for a new challenge on this acclaimed reality series: At one point in the competition, the leading team must climb the Swiss Alps with all six of the show’s Emmy Awards chained to their legs. Now, that would be fun to watch. Otherwise, you know the drill: Eleven squads of adventure junkies — including a couple of stunt men, a pair of flight attendants and two former NFL cheerleaders — convene to begin a race around the globe. First stop is Switzerland, where the world’s second tallest bungee awaits, as well as a grueling “cheesy” challenge. We like our idea better.

“Why We Love Cats and Dogs” (8 p.m., PBS): Do you dress your dog in silly clothes? Would you rather snuggle with your cat than your boyfriend? “Why We Love Cats and Dogs,” the latest “Nature” installment, tries to explain the incredible bond between humans and their furry friends.

“Oliver Twist” (9 p.m., PBS): Let’s “Oliver Twist” the night away with a bold new adaptation from “Masterpiece Classic.” William Miller stars as the boy orphan and Timothy Spall (aka the Death Eater in the “Harry Potter” movies) plays Fagin. Both of them can really act like the Dickens.

“Eastbound & Down” (10:30 p.m., HBO): “Do you have any comments on the steroids allegation?”

No, it isn’t Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez or some other real-life athlete being questioned. It’s one-time pitching sensation Kenny Powers, the make-believe fallen hero of HBO’s comedy “Eastbound & Down.”

Premiering for a six-episode season at 10:30 p.m. tonight, “Eastbound” stars Danny McBride, Katy Mixon as Kenny’s former flame, a fellow teacher at the school; John Hawkes as Kenny’s brother, Dustin, a family man who feels obliged to let Kenny move in; and Jennifer Irwin as Dustin’s often-horrified wife.
