McNally’s game-winning bucket guides Leetonia past Wellsville


LEETONIA — Jake McNally scored the game-winning basket as time expired Friday to lift the Leetonia High boys basketball team to a 72-71 upset of Wellsville in an Inter Tri-County League Tier Two matchup.

Leetonia got the ball with 12 seconds left and Josh Selway drove to the basket and missed. McNally grabbed the rebound and scored.

McNally had 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks for the Bears (9-9, 7-6). Selway added 24 points and Luke Newton had 15.

Mike Johnston had 30 points and Jalen Desarro 16 for Wellsville (13-5, 8-5).

Western Reserve 61, Southern 57

BERLIN CENTER —The Indians (8-10, 5-8 ITCL2) won the first half 34-22, but the Blue Devils (9-8, 6-7) took the second half, winning the fourth quarter with a 17-7 surge.

Justin Lude and Zach White paced Western Reserve with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Andrew Diaz and Ethan Blatch scored 16 and 11 for Southern.

Crestview 79, United 78

HANOVERTON — Each team scored nine 3-point goals, but the Rebels (9-11, 6-8 ITCL1) rallied in the fourth quarter with a 27-7 surge.

In overtime, the Rebels outscored the Eagles, 11-10.

Jakob Leon and Cameron Reynolds triggered the Crestview attack with 27 and 23 points respectively. Jimmy Smith added 14.

Taylor Phillips, who made six 3-pointers, Zack Taylor and Jeremy Walker scored 20 points apiece for United (10-5, 9-4). Walker pulled down 17 rebounds, while Jason Ramus 10 assists and Phillips four steals.

Springfield 50, Mineral Ridge 32

MINERAL RIDGE — The Tigers (11-7, 9-5 ITCL1) built a 35-21 lead and the Rams (3-15, 2-13) couldn’t catch up.

Todd Kibby paced Springfield with 14 points.

Eric Lipp chipped in with 10. Zack Kiger led Mineral Ridge with 12.
