Harding holds off Mooney to stay atop SVC standings


YOUNGSTOWN — Aundrea Baldridge had 13 points and Kourtney Williams 11 to lead the Warren Harding High girls basketball team, which held off Cardinal Mooney, 39-36, to remain unbeaten in the Steel Valley Conference Thursday night.

The Cardinals rallied from a 9-1 deficit in the opening period, and outscored the Raiders in the final period, 17-11.

Harding (16-2, 4-0 SVC) sealed the win with free throws down the stretch with under a minute left. Baldridge went 2-for-2 and Jahmarra Warfield 1-for-2.

Warfield finished with nine points and three assists.

Jasmine Kirkland had seven rebounds.

Katie Hughes had 11 points to lead Mooney (9-2, 2-2), including six in the final period, while Kelly Martino had a 3-pointer in the fourth to aid the Cardinals’ comeback.

Ursuline 83, Warren JFK 32

YOUNGSTOWN — Aurielle Irizarry scored 13 points, Asia Spencer 11 and Victoria Miles 10 and with 11 rebounds to lead Ursuline (9-7, 2-1 SVC).

Lucia Petrus added nine points on three 3-point goals while Shamia Harrison had four assists.

Erin McBride had eight points for JFK (7-10, 0-4).

Lowellville 54, Western Reserve 50

BERLIN CENTER — The Rockets (14-3, 12-0 Inter Tri-County League Tier Two) built a 46-25 lead by the end of the third quarter, then held off a late rally by the Blue Devils (11-8, 10-3).

Ashley Moore scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Lowellville. Taylor Hvisdak added 11 points and four assists. Emily Carlson had 10 points.

Colleen Kennehan paced Western Reserve with 12 points and three assists. Victoria Brown chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds, while Jessica Keeler grabbed five rebounds.
