KAHUKU, Hawaii — Angela Stanford shot a bogey-free 7-under 65 on Thursday to take the early lead in the first round of the LPGA Tour’s season-opening SBS Open. Rookie of the year Yani Tseng, who was ranked 133rd a year ago and is now No. 2, opened with a 66, and Kyeong Bae had 67. Michelle Wie, playing on her home island of Oahu and making her debut as a full-fledged LPGA Tour member, was 1 under through six holes. Playing in front of the largest gallery, the 19-year-old Wie made her first LPGA start since July when she was disqualified from the State Farm Classic. Wie played the first SBS in 2005 as a 15-year-old amateur and tied for second. Taylor Leon, In-Kyung Kim, Jimin Kang, Teresa Lu and Juli Inkster had 69s, while 2007 champion Paula Creamer was at 70, with Japanese rookie Mika Miyazato and a few others.

Women’s Australian Open

MELBOURNE, Australia — Two-time defending champion Karrie Webb shot a 7-under 66 to take the first-round lead in the Women’s Australian Open, while 12-year-old Oh Su-hyun became the youngest player ever to participate in the tournament. Webb, coming off a 30th-place tie last week in the Australian Ladies Masters, had eight birdies and a bogey to take a three-stroke lead over Spain’s Tania Elosegui and South Korea’s Lee Chang-hee. Webb is seeking her fifth title in the event. Oh, who hadn’t picked up a golf club before moving to Australia from South Korea in 2004, was 13 shots back after a 79.

Malaysian Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — South Korean teen star Noh Seung-yul shot a 10-under 62 to take a one-stroke lead in the Malaysian Open. The 17-year-old Noh had an eagle, nine birdies and a bogey on the Saujana Golf and Country Club’s Palm Course. Playing partner Alexander Noren of Sweden opened with a 63 in the event sanctioned by the European and Asian tours.
