Youngstown schools seek cuts to wipe out deficit
YOUNGSTOWN — City school officials say another $5.5 million in proposed spending cuts will be enough to wipe out the Youngstown City School District’s on-going budget deficit.
Superintendent Wendy Webb today unveiled the list of cutbacks to be imposed in the 2009-10 school year. There will be some layoffs and positions cut through attrition resulting from retirements and resignations.
Treasurer William Johnson said the reductions, coupled with the passage of a 9.5-mill, four-year tax levy last fall, will be sufficient to eliminate the general fund deficit that has plagued the district over the last three years.
