Man arrested on assault charge

STAFF REPORT

YOUNGSTOWN — Charles E. Allen, 34, of East Philadelphia Avenue was arrested on charges of felonious assault and violating a protection order after a woman was stabbed and beaten.

The victim, Jessica Jackson, 26, of Bonnie Place, Boardman, drove herself to St. Elizabeth Health Center after being attacked around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday outside Allen’s home, where she’d gone to pick up a friend, thinking Allen wasn’t there, police said.

She told police she had obtained a protection order against Allen. She told police that when she got to the house, Allan stabbed her and hit her.

The victim’s injuries include stab wounds to her lips, neck/throat area, left arm and left and right hands. A tooth was knocked out and her left arm possibly broken, police said.

As she drove off, Allen jumped into the bed of her pickup truck and rode along to the hospital, where he was arrested.

Jackson’s condition was not immediately available. She told police that Allen had a roll of duct tape during the attack and she feared he was attempting to bind and kidnap her or possibly kill her.

Allen, who was covered in blood, told police he broke up a fight between Jackson and a woman he didn’t know.

Latex gloves were found in Allen’s pants, and hospital staff said he discarded what appeared to be the plastic handle of a knife when he leaped out of the pickup truck.
