BROOKFIELD — A Hubbard woman died in a two-car collision at U.S. Route 62 and Bedford Road.
Patricia S. Copen, 61, was ejected from her vehicle when it collided with a vehicle driven by James M. Goodwin, 49, of Sharon, who was treated at the scene for a minor injury.
Copen, whose exact address was not available, was pronounced dead at the scene, a dispatcher at the Warren post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The crash remains under investigation.
The patrol said Copen was northwest bound on Bedford Road at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and drove through the stop sign at Route 62 and into the path of Goodwin’s vehicle, which was northeast bound on Route 62.
The collision caused Copen’s vehicle to overturn and eject her. She was not wearing a seat belt. Goodwin was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
Goodwin is a private-practice attorney and public defender who waged an unsuccessful campaign for Mercer County district attorney in 2007.
Tuesday’s crash occurred a short distance from a fatal accident that hapened Jan. 18 on Route 62 just south of Bedford Road in Hubbard Township.
Alessa Norris, 16, of Brookfield, died when a vehicle in which she was a passenger hit a metal pole in the median of the divided highway. She and the driver of the car, who survived, were not wearing seat belts.
