The American Red Cross relies on 97 million people worldwide to help accomplish its mission of providing relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Donating blood is just one way individuals can help the Red Cross succeed.
General Facts
The Red Cross provides 57 local hospitals with 900 units of blood daily and 200,000 units per year.
The universal donor blood type is type O. This means any blood type can receive type O blood.
The universal receiver blood type is type AB. This means any blood type can be given to those with type AB blood.
Donors must:
Be at least 17 years old.
Weigh at least 110 pounds.
Be in good general health.
