St. Vincent 73, Thiel 64
LATROBE, Pa. — The Tomcats dropped their fifth consecutive game. Thiel was led by senior duo, Amber Bodrick (Mooney High) and Catie Seiber, who scored 16 and 12 points respectively. Bodrick snatched nine rebounds and tallied a couple of steals.
Gannon 83, Slippery Rock 63
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Jess Schake scored a team-high 15 points and Julie Molloy added 13 for SRU (8-14, 3-6 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division). Gannon improved its overall record to 14-3 and its PSAC-West mark to 7-2.
Mount Union 65, Capital 64
ALLIANCE — Sophomore Lauren Forquer gave Mount Union its first lead of the game on a layup with four seconds to play to lift Mount Union to the upset of first-place Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup in Timken Gymnasium. Mount Union improves to 14-7 overall, 9-6 in conference play and snaps a 12-game losing streak to Capital (15-6 overall, 12-4 OAC) dating to the 2002-03 season. Junior Tessa Pohovey (Strasburg/Tusky Valley) scored 15 of her team-high 21 points in the second half and Forquer came off the bench with 10 points to lead the Purple Raiders. Daniele Sanna had a game high 23 points and Kristen Richardson and Caitlin Elsass added 10 each for the Crusaders.
Bethany 67, Grove City 59
GROVE CITY, Pa. — Kaitlyn McCormick scored all 13 of her points in the second half to help the Bethany women’s basketball team (12-10, 6-5) pull away from Grove City (9-13, 5-7). The victory was the fifth in a row for BC and their eighth in the last nine games. The Bison forced 27 Wolverine turnovers, which were turned into 33 BC points. Joining McCormick, who also made six steals in the victory, in double figures was Renee Shepherd and Stacy Goode with 11 each.
MEN
Mount Union 77, Capital 65
COLUMBUS — The Purple Raiders fall to 11-11 overall and are 5-10 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while Capital moves to 19-3 overall and 12-3 in the OAC. Luke Conley scored 18 points, Dave Pellerite had 16 and Chris Switzer tallied 15 to lead the Raiders.
Slippery Rock 82, Gannon 72
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Denell Stephens scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead The Rock (15-7, 6-3 PSAC-W) to victory. The win improved The Rock’s overall record to 15-7 and its division mark to 6-3. The victory avenged a 20-point, 80-60, loss to the Golden Knights’ in the teams’ first meeting Jan. 11 in Erie.
Wooster 67, Hiram 55
HIRAM — The Hiram College women’s basketball team dropped a 67-55 decision against The College of Wooster in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at Price Gymnasium. The Terriers are now 6-16 overall and 4-9 in the NCAC. The Fighting Scots improve to 8-14 overall and 6-7 NCAC.
Bethany 71, Grove City 64
GROVE CITY, Pa. — Grove City (10-10, 4-6 Presidents’ Athletic Conference) limited Bethany (13-10, 7-3 PAC) to 20-of-58 (34 percent) shooting from the field. However, the Bison sank a dozen three-point goals and out-rebounded Grove City 39-34. Bethany also went 16 for 16 at the foul line in the second half. Sophomore guard Caleb Orchard paced Grove City with 13 points while junior center Andy O’Keefe tallied 11 points. Freshman forward Drew Vandermeer added 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting for the Wolverines. Grove City shot 12 of 21 (57 percent) from the field in the first half and led 26-25 at halftime. However, Bethany took the lead for good by assembling a 17-4 run in the second half. During that span, Grove City went over five minutes without a field goal. Freshman guard Brett Matson added nine points and three assists for the Wolverines. O’Keefe and senior guard Ryan Gibson both pulled in six rebounds.
