Struthers’ long ball keys 52-50 victory over Salem


SALEM — The Struthers High basketball team made 10 3-point goals Tuesday in upsetting Salem, 52-50.

The Wildcats (6-10, 2-4 AAC White) were led by Nick Jacubec and Nate Jacubec with 14 points each. They also accounted for six of the 3-point goals. Matt Durkin added 13 points.

Salem (10-6, 4-2) got nine points each from Jordon Strabala and Chris Brown.

Newton Falls 62, Champion 47

NEWTON FALLS — Marcus Fowler scored a career-high 30 points and set a new school record with 20 rebounds and Newton Falls pulled away from Champion.

The Tigers (14-2, 6-1 AAC Blue) led only 19-17 at halftime.

Cody Dillon added 18 points for the Tigers.

Champion (6-10, 3-4) was led by Tyler Day with 12 points and Mike Smith added 10.

Howland 59, Niles 43

HOWLAND — Jared Kirin collected 18 points and 11 rebounds to spark Howland.

T.J. Lanier had seven rebounds while Drew Guido added seven rebounds and seven points to pace the Tigers (11-6, 4-2 AAC Red).

Cory Floyd had 14 rebounds and five assists for Niles (5-11, 1-4).
