Lordstown GM cars named ‘Greenest Vehicles’
LORDSTOWN — The two models produced at General Motors’ Lordstown complex have been named “Greenest Vehicles” by GreenerCars.org. The Pontiac G5 XFE and Chevrolet Cobalt XFE were chosen for the honor, along with the Chevrolet Aveo.
The Web site listed the XFE models as getting 37 mpg on the highway. GM last year tweaked the engines of certain Cobalt and G5 models to allow them to achieve increased mileage.
“We are determined to maintain fuel economy leadership in the several segments where we already have it and assume leadership in the ones we don’t,” said Tom Stephens, GM executive vice president.
The Lordstown models were among 13 that were rated as being best for the environment. The Web site is part of American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, which is a Washington, D.C.-based research group.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will cut 700 to 800 jobs at its northwestern Arkansas headquarters as it builds fewer new stores this year and makes other operational changes, the world’s largest retailer announced Tuesday.
The cuts are in Wal-Mart’s real estate, apparel and health and wellness departments, spokesman David Tovar said. Wal-Mart would not say how many jobs will be cut in each segment.
