Poland rolls; Boardman, Fitch drop Federal contests


YOUNGSTOWN — Niko Fatimus scored 20 points Tuesday to lead the Poland High boys basketball team to a 92-62 victory over Chaney.

Four other Bulldogs (12-4) players scored in double figures — Ben Donlow (14), Luke Wollet (11), David Baker (10 and Louis Fatimus (10).

Donlow pulled down 10 of Poland’s 41 rebounds while Niko Fatimus made five assists.

For the Cowboys (4-11), Ken Strong scored 15 points while Dom Brown had 11 points and six caroms.

Also with six rebounds was Aaron McKinney. Myke Parker scored 10 points.

Canton McKinley 71, Boardman 63

CANTON — Terrell Lipkins scored 22 points, including three 3-point goals, to spark Canton McKinley (12-3, 5-3) in a Federal League Tournament game.

J.C. Moore and and Devron Martin each had 14 points and Jordan Karzmer 13 to lead Boardman (7-10, 3-5), which was in its tourney opener.

Boardman will play at home Friday against Austintown Fitch in a second-round Federal League Tournament game at 7:30 p.m.

Massillon Jackson 67, Fitch 48

MASSILLON — John Williams scored 15 points and pulled down six of the Falcons’ 23 rebounds.

For the Polar Bears, Mark Henniger scored 22 points while Josh Egner contributed 16 in the Federal League Tournament game.

Youngstown Christian 64, Jefferson Area 55

JEFFERSON — The Eagles (15-3) rolled to a 39-21 halftime lead and the Falcons 36-16 effort in the second half wasn’t enough to make up the difference.

Olonzo Johnson scored a game-high 28 points for Youngstown Christian. Anthony Walker grabbed nine rebounds, while John Pecchia had eight and four assists.

Zack Graf and C.J. Graff paced Jefferson Area with 25 and 16 points.

Kennedy Catholic 60, Vision Quest 59

HERMITAGE, Pa. — With six seconds remaining, Kyle Randall, who scored a game-high 24 points, missed and then connected on a free throw for the Golden Eagles (18-2, 10-0) in the PIAA District 10 Class A contest.

The Vision Quest Eagles had a turnover with less then a minute to go and a Randall basket gave Kennedy Catholic a 59-56 lead. Steven Justianno connected on a 3-point basket to tie the score.

After the Randall free throw, Vision Quest tried a desperation shot that just missed as the final buzzer sounded.

Aundra Jones and Phil Kaikis added 13 and 11 points respectively for the Golden Eagles.

Khayree Harrison and Justianno each scored 14 points for Vision Quest and Kerreem Shaw finished with 12.
