Warren man faces drug charges after arrest in Liberty

LIBERTY — Township police charged a Warren man with felony possession of drugs, and misdemeanor resisting arrest, possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia after his arrest here.

The arrest took place after an altercation that left one township officer scraped by a used syringe.

According to police reports, the officer was approached Monday night by James Monroe, 25, of Reeves Road while at Speedway on Belmont Avenue. Monroe, reportedly, started a conversation about becoming a police officer, but the officer noticed drug paraphernalia sticking out of Monroe’s pocket.

Reports say the officer attempted to place Monroe under arrest but a scuffle took place. The officer used a Taser on Monroe, but Monroe continued to fight. The officer eventually was scraped by a syringe.

Officers found suspected heroin and various drug paraphernalia items on Monroe.
