Journalists to take part in panel discussion

YOUNGSTOWN — Three journalists familiar with Youngstown will gather in Kilcawley Center on Youngstown State University’s campus for a panel discussion at 7:30 today.

Connie Schultz, of The Plain Dealer; Marilyn Geewax, National Public Radio correspondent; and Jonathan Kaufman, Wall Street Journal reporter, will participate in the discussion, “Assignment Youngstown: A Panel Discussion on the 2008 Election Reporting on the Working Class and Youngstown.”

John Russo, co-director of YSU’s Center for Working Class Studies, said the panel will focus on various aspects of working-class voting patterns and the impact of de-industrialization during the current economic crisis.

“We thought what we’d do is bring in reporters and talk about reporting on the working class in Youngstown,” he said.

The panel discussion is open to the public, and parking is free in the Lincoln/Fifth Avenue parking deck. Tell the attendant you are attending the lecture.
