Harding stays perfect in SVC


Liberty rallied in the second half to upend Hubbard in an AAC White Tier game.

WARREN — Anita Brown scored 12 points to lead a balanced attack as the Warren Harding High girls basketball team stayed unbeaten in the Steel Valley Conference with a 59-37 win over Chaney on Monday.

Jasmine Kirkland and Kourtney Williams each scored 11 points and Jahmarra Warfield added 10 for the Raiders (15-2, 3-0).

For Chaney (7-8, 1-2), Marcinde North had 10 points.

Liberty 49, Hubbard 42

LIBERTY — Chi-Chi Merriweather scored 16 points to lead Liberty (9-9, 3-4 AAC White), which outscored Hubbard 28-19 in the second half to rally for the win.

Brittany Bullock had 14 for Hubbard (6-13, 2-5).

Champion 57, Campbell 53

CHAMPION — Freshman Paige Lychik scored nine of her 12 points in the fourth quarter, including 7 of 7 from the free throw line, as the Flashes outscored Campbell 16-10 over that stretch to secure the win.

Haley McCallister added 11 points for Champion (10-7, 5-3 AAC Blue).

Iesha Moses scored 14 points and Jayaira Grhim had 10 for Campbell (11-6, 5-4).

LaBrae 40, Lakeview 37

CORTLAND — Emily Potter scored 12 points and Bayle Boggs added 11 to lead LaBrae (3-14), which made 4-of-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to hold off Lakeview.

Mackenzie Palette had nine points and three assists for Lakeview (4-15), while Jessica Downs had eight points and eight rebounds.

Brookfield 38, Girard 28

GIRARD — Ashley Swezey scored 20 points and Paige Wallace added five points and nine rebounds for Brookfield (10-8, 5-4 AAC Blue).

Bryanna Jay scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Indians (3-14, 0-7).

Lordstown 40, Newton Falls 38

NEWTON FALLS — Lindsey Harrison scored 11 points, including two free throws with 20 seconds remaining that gave Lordstown a 40-37 lead, and had four assists and two steals for the Red Devils (11-7).

Kelsey Wickline added 14 points, while Brianna Blodgett had eight points and seven rebounds.

For the Tigers (15-4), Kelsey McGregor scored 26 points. Newton Falls went 1-of-2 from the line with one second left for the final margin.
