Fire causes $50K damage to Brookfield barn

staff report

BROOKFIELD — A fire ruled suspicious caused about $50,000 in damage to a two-story barn at 1625 state Route 7, Bookfield Fire Department Capt. David Coffy said Sunday.

The fire began about 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters controlled the fire and were back at the station at 4:30 p.m.

The fire burned through a part of the roof.

The former owner of the barn came to the scene and told the firefighters he had lost the barn in a foreclosure action and that a bank had taken possession of it.

A Realtor’s sign indicated the property was for sale.

The department called for assistance from area fire departments that created a tanker shuttle to provide water to fight the fire because there are no hydrants in the area.
